Why should I not purchase heartworm, flea and tick prevention, and other prescription items from an internet pharmacy like PetMeds?
1. Pet Meds is not
guaranteed by drug companies!
Products purchased from internet pharmacies are not
guaranteed.
While PetMeds and others will
tell you that their products are guaranteed to be of
good quality, the only true guarantee is that of the
product manufacturer. Manufacturers
of common products such as Frontline, Interceptor,
and Heartgard will not guarantee
products from PetMeds, nor will they sell their
product to anyone other than a licensed
veterinarian.
What does this guarantee mean?
It means that if your dog tests positive for
heartworms after you have purchased and used their
preventatives through
a veterinarian, Novartis or Merial will actually pay for your treatment.
Or, if you have purchased Frontline and you feel it
is not working, they will refund your purchase
price. These companies will not do this if the
product was purchased online.
2. Pet
Meds has a questionable history!
Many internet pharmacies have a history of
purchasing product from foreign companies.
American pharmaceutical companies refuse to sell to
PetMeds and are in fact, in several cases, involved
in lawsuits with them. We at the Animal Clinic do
not have the solid faith that these foreign-shipped products are
arriving in the condition they need to be.
